Roihuja, also known as *Solanum nigrum* L., is a common annual herbaceous plant belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is widely distributed across temperate and tropical regions worldwide, thriving in disturbed soils, gardens, and waste areas. The plant is often considered a weed due to its rapid growth and ability to spread aggressively, though it has been used historically in traditional medicine and culinary practices in some cultures.

Roihuja typically grows to a height of 30 to 100 centimeters, with slender, hairy stems and alternate, oval-shaped leaves. Its small, greenish-white flowers produce glossy, black berries when mature. The plant’s leaves and fruits contain alkaloids, including solanine and solasonine, which can be toxic in large quantities. However, young leaves and shoots are sometimes consumed in moderation in certain regions, particularly in parts of Asia and Europe, where they are cooked similarly to spinach.
