rodding

Rodding is a maintenance technique used to clear obstructions in pipes and drainage systems by inserting and manipulating a rod through the line. In plumbing, rodding is commonly performed with a set of straight metal rods that can be connected to form a long shaft, or with a flexible auger, to reach blockages beyond the trap.

Equipment and method: Manual rodding uses rods with threaded couplings and a crank or handle to push

Applications and limitations: Rodding is commonly used to clear hair, grease, soap scum, mineral deposits, and

Safety and maintenance: Wear eye protection; avoid forcing rods to prevent pipe damage; clean and dry rods
