Robotszabályok, or robot rules, refer to norms governing the design, deployment, and behavior of robots and autonomous systems. The term is used in discussions of ethics, safety, and law as they apply to how machines interact with people and the environment.

Historically, the phrase is closely associated with Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, introduced in his 1942 short story Runaround and developed in I, Robot. The laws are fictional: a robot may not injure a human or allow a human to come to harm; a robot must obey orders given by humans except where these conflict with the first law; and a robot must protect its own existence as long as this does not conflict with the first two laws. A Zeroeth Law was later added, placing the welfare of humanity above individual humans.

In practical terms, “robot rules” also refer to real-world safety and ethics frameworks. Industrial robots are governed by safety standards such as ISO 10218 and ISO 13849, while collaborative robots are addressed in ISO/TS 15066. In AI and robotics ethics, guidelines emphasize safety, accountability, transparency, privacy, and human oversight. Regulators and professional bodies in various regions are developing laws and codes of conduct to promote responsible use of robotic systems.

Limitations of universal rules are widely recognized. Fixed laws can be ambiguous, conflict with context, or be unsuitable for complex autonomous systems. Therefore, real-world governance typically relies on risk assessments, testing, technical safety measures, and domain-specific standards in addition to broader ethical principles.
