Riskbedömningsmatriser, also known as risk matrices or probability-impact matrices, are tools used to assess and visualize the potential risks associated with a project, operation, or decision. The rows of the matrix often represent different levels of probability, such as low, medium, and high, while the columns represent different levels of impact, also ranging from low to high. The intersection of a specific probability and impact level falls into a colored cell within the matrix. These colors are used to categorize the overall risk level, with common color schemes including green for low risk, yellow for medium risk, and red for high risk.

By plotting identified risks onto this matrix, organizations can gain a clearer understanding of which risks require the most immediate attention and resources. Risks that fall into the high-probability, high-impact quadrant (typically red) are considered critical and demand robust mitigation strategies.
