Riojatás is a traditional Hungarian musical and literary phenomenon, originating in the 17th and 18th centuries in the Great Hungarian Plain. The name is derived from the Hungarian word "riogramen", meaning "musical composition", and "játék", meaning "play" or "game".

Riocatás typically involves a group of people, known as "riokasok" or "gulyás", performing traditional folk music and singing on horseback or on foot, often accompanied by playing musical instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy, fiddle, and bagpipes. The event commonly takes place during special occasions like weddings, fairs, and harvest festivals.

Key characteristics of Riojatás include its dynamic and energetic performance style, with music and dance proceeding in a carefree and spontaneous manner. Participants involved in the activity are skilled in horses and can perform unicycling tricks while singing and playing instruments. This skill was seen as a matter of pride for the players and a distinguishing feature of the practice.

Traditionally, participants are guided by a designated leader, known as the "riokaz", who maintains the group's unity and rhythmic flow.
