rintakehähengitys
Rintakehähengitys, also known as thoracic breathing or chest breathing, is a type of respiration where the primary muscles involved are those of the chest wall. This contrasts with diaphragmatic breathing, where the diaphragm plays the dominant role. In rintakehähengitys, inhalation is achieved by the contraction of the intercostal muscles, which lift the rib cage upwards and outwards, increasing the volume of the thoracic cavity. Expiration is typically passive, occurring as these muscles relax and the elastic recoil of the lungs and chest wall pushes air out.
This breathing pattern is often associated with states of stress or heightened arousal. When a person feels
Recognizing and consciously shifting towards diaphragmatic breathing is often recommended for relaxation and improved respiratory function.
