rhSub

RhSub is a geographic region located in northwestern Russia, predominantly inhabited by the indigenous Saami people. The area is an extension of the Norwegian and Swedish regions known as Lapland. It spans across about 132,000 square kilometers and borders Norway and Finland to the west, a short fringe to the north, Murmansk Oblast to the southeast, and the Republic of Karelia to the south.

The name "rhSub" is not widely used, instead; the region is frequently referred to by other names such as the Murmansk Oblast or the Russian part of Lapland. This comes from the fact that the majority of the region's territory belongs to Murmansk Oblast, a federal subject of the Russian Federation.

The RhSub economy relies heavily on the processing of natural resources. This includes forest products, mainly timber, and metal production. The majority of the area topped with the forest due to which soil development is inefficient. Agriculture in the region is a significant challenge. The indigenous Saami people traditionally practice reindeer husbandry as the primary occupation.

The climate of RhSub is challenging, with harsh winters and variable sums of precipitation due to its high latitude. Temperatures are frequently below freezing during winter, whereas in the summer, temperatures often reach a maximum of 10-12 degrees Celsius.
