Retrográdak is a Hungarian term referring to a period of perceived backward movement of planets in the sky. This phenomenon is not a true reversal of planetary motion but an optical illusion caused by the differing orbital speeds of planets around the Sun and the perspective from Earth. As Earth overtakes or is overtaken by another planet in its orbit, the slower-moving planet can appear to move backward in its path against the backdrop of distant stars.

Ancient and medieval astronomers observed retrográdak and developed complex systems to explain and predict these movements. While historically associated with astrological interpretations, often signifying periods of challenge, introspection, or re-evaluation, modern astronomy understands retrográdak purely as a consequence of orbital mechanics and relative velocity.
