Resistoreiden is the Finnish term for resistors, with the plural possessive form meaning “of the resistors.” In English-language contexts the term would be translated as “the resistors.” In electronics, a resistor is a passive two-terminal component that provides a defined resistance to current flow.

Resistors serve multiple roles in circuits. They limit current, divide voltages, set bias points for active devices, terminate transmission lines, and convert electrical energy into heat. Their behavior follows Ohm’s law: V = IR, where V is voltage, I is current, and R is resistance. This relation underpins how resistors are chosen and used in designs.

Applications and selection. Designers choose resistance values to set biasing, establish gain, create RC time constants, and achieve impedance matching or current limiting. Resistors are common components in filters, timing circuits, voltage dividers, and load elements. Proper selection also considers voltage rating, power dissipation, and tolerance to ensure reliability.
