resistatiivne

Resistatiivne is an Estonian adjective that describes properties, components, or systems where electrical resistance is the dominant parameter. In physics and electronics, something described as resistatiivne is characterized by resistance playing the central role in its behavior, as opposed to capacitance or inductance.

In electronics, resistive elements are those whose impedance is mainly real, so voltage and current are approximately in phase. Ohm’s law (V = IR) applies directly to resistive components, and their primary function is to convert electrical energy into heat or to set current levels. Real components often exhibit small parasitic reactances, but they are still regarded as resistive when resistance dominates the response.

Applications and examples include fixed and variable resistors used to set signals and biases, resistive heating elements that convert electricity into heat, and resistive sensors where changes in resistance indicate a physical quantity such as force, pressure, or temperature. Resistive touch screens, for instance, operate on a change in contact resistance when pressed. In memory and switching technologies, resistive materials can change between high- and low-resistance states, a principle used in resistive random-access memory (RRAM).

Properties related to resistatiivne also encompass resistivity, an intrinsic material property measured in ohm-meters, which describes how strongly a material opposes electric current. While many electrical systems employ combinations of resistance, inductance, and capacitance, systems or components described as resistatiivne are those in which resistance is the primary or defining characteristic.
