Remissionsstatus is a term used in oncology to describe the current state of cancer after treatment, indicating the extent to which the disease has regressed or disappeared. It is a clinical designation that helps doctors summarize how much tumor burden remains and how well the patient is responding to therapy.

In most contexts, remission status is categorized into complete remission, partial remission, stable disease, and progression. Complete remission (CR) usually means that all signs of cancer have disappeared and that laboratory and imaging assessments are normal, whereas partial remission (PR) indicates a substantial but incomplete reduction in tumor burden.

In hematologic cancers, remission status often includes complete remission with normalization of blood counts and bone marrow examinations, and sometimes minimal residual disease negativity.

Assessment methods include imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET-CT), clinical examination, laboratory markers, and, in hematology, bone marrow biopsies or MRD testing. Guidelines such as RECIST or Lugano help standardize definitions across trials and practice.

Remission status is a dynamic measure; it can change with relapse or progression and may be used to guide further treatment, evaluate prognosis, and determine eligibility for maintenance therapy or curative procedures. It is also used as an endpoint in clinical trials.
