Reliabiliteedi is the state or quality of being reliable, especially the probability that a system or component will perform its required function under stated conditions for a specified period. In Estonian usage, reliabiliteedi denotes reliability as a measure of dependability, consistency, and fault tolerance. It is related to, but distinct from, availability and maintainability: reliability concerns functioning without failure; availability combines reliability with uptime, and maintainability concerns the ease and speed of repair.

Reliability is quantified with models of time to failure and life data analysis. Key metrics include the failure rate (lambda), mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), and the reliability function R(t), the probability that a system operates without failure up to time t. Many systems follow distributions such as exponential or Weibull to enable prediction, warranty planning, and maintenance decisions.

Approaches to improve reliabiliteedi include design for reliability, accelerated life testing, reliability-centered maintenance, and fault tree analysis. In software, reliability considers how failures accumulate with usage and time, using reliability growth modeling and risk-based testing.

Reliability is a central concern in electronics, automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, and information technology. It is treated as a core quality attribute in standards and quality-management frameworks, balancing durability with cost and complexity. As a field, reliability engineering combines mathematical modeling, empirical data, and systematic testing to inform design choices, maintenance planning, and risk management.
