Rekuperativ is an adjective used in Romanian technical language to describe processes, devices, or systems that recover energy that would otherwise be wasted. The term derives from recuperare (to recover) and is applied across fields such as heating, ventilation, transportation, and industrial processes to denote energy-saving or energy-recovery functionality.

In heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), a rekuperativ system refers to energy recovery ventilation (ERV). Such systems use a heat exchanger to transfer thermal energy between outgoing exhaust air and incoming fresh air, allowing preconditioning of the supply air and reducing the demand on heating or cooling equipment.

In transportation, the adjective appears in frână rekuperativă or regenerative braking, where kinetic energy from motion is converted and stored—typically as electrical energy in a battery or capacitor—for later use, improving overall energy efficiency of hybrid and electric vehicles.

In industry, rekuperativ technologies include recuperative burners and heat exchangers, which recover heat from hot process streams to preheat incoming fluids. The term is often used with energy efficiency and sustainability goals, and its effectiveness depends on temperature differentials, flow rates, and maintenance requirements.
