Reistraject is a concept used primarily in Dutch-language planning and GIS contexts to describe the travel trajectory of a journey. It refers to the planned or actual path from an origin to a destination, including the sequence of stops, the modes of transport, and the timing of each segment. The term blends reis (travel) with traject (trajectory) and is used in travel planning, logistics, and transport research to analyze and optimize movement.

A reistraject typically comprises several elements: origin and destination; intermediate waypoints; a sequence of legs or segments with corresponding transport modes (for example, train, bus, car, flight); departure and arrival times; distances or durations; and, where relevant, costs, fares, or environmental impact. It can also include constraints such as time windows, budget limits, accessibility requirements, and reliability considerations.

There are different forms of reistraject. A planned reistraject equals an itinerary created before a trip; an actual reistraject records what happened, often based on GPS data or ticketed journeys. In multi-modal contexts, a reistraject may be dynamic, adjusting in response to real-time conditions such as delays or closures.

In practice, reistrajects are represented in geographic information systems as temporally annotated routes or in network models that enable optimization and simulation.
