Reexperiences, also referred to as re-experiencing, are episodes in which a person relives a past event as if it were happening in the present. This phenomenon is studied in trauma psychology and psychiatry, where it is a core feature of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Reexperiences can present as intrusive memories or flashbacks of a traumatic event, distressing dreams, and distress or physiological arousal when reminded of the event.
