reconheces

Reconheces is the second-person singular present indicative form of the Portuguese verb reconhecer, meaning you recognize or you acknowledge. It is used with the informal subject pronoun tu and appears in contexts where informality or familiarity is implied.

In terms of regional usage, querido as a standard form with tu is common in European Portuguese and in some parts of Brazil. In many Brazilian dialects, the more frequent form for the second person is with você: você reconhece. Consequently, tu reconheces is heard less often in Brazilian speech but remains the normal form in Portugal and among speakers who use the tu pronoun. The present tense forms of the verb caminho follow typical -er verb patterns: eu reconheço, tu reconheces, ele reconhece, nós reconhecemos, vós reconhecês ou reconhecéis (archais in much of usage), eles reconhecem.

The verb teve a origem no latim recognoscere, a união de re- com cognoscere, meaning to recall, identify, or acknowledge. In contemporary Portuguese, reconhecer and its forms, including reconheces, retain the sense of identifying or admitting something, recognizing a fact, a person, or a situation.
