Reaving is a historical term with several related meanings, primarily concerning acts of plunder and destruction. In its most common historical context, reaving refers to the practice of raiding and looting, particularly by outlaws or groups operating in border regions. This was especially prevalent in the Scottish Borders and Northern England during the medieval and early modern periods, where reivers, or bandits, would cross territories to steal livestock, goods, and even abduct people. These activities often led to feuds and a state of lawlessness in the affected areas.
The term can also be used more generally to describe any act of forceful or unlawful taking
