Rataosuuksien, also known as "rataosuuskunta" in Finnish, refers to a cooperative railway company in Finland. These cooperatives were established in the early 20th century as a response to the lack of private investment in railway infrastructure. The idea was to democratize railway ownership and operation, allowing local communities to have a stake in the development of their region's transportation network.

Rataosuuksien were typically formed by local municipalities, farmers, and other interested parties who pooled their resources to build and operate a railway line. The cooperatives were governed by a board of directors elected by the members, ensuring that decisions were made collectively and in the best interest of the community.

The first rataosuuksien was established in 1905, and by the 1920s, there were over 100 such cooperatives in Finland. They played a crucial role in the development of the Finnish railway network, particularly in rural areas where private investment was scarce.

However, the era of rataosuuksien came to an end in the 1960s and 1970s. As the Finnish railway network became more integrated and efficient, the cooperatives were gradually absorbed into the state-owned VR-Yhtymä (now part of VR Group). Today, the legacy of rataosuuksien can still be seen in the Finnish railway system, with many lines and stations bearing the names of the original cooperatives.
