Raszterképek, often referred to as bitmap images or raster graphics, are digital images composed of a grid of individual pixels. Each pixel is assigned a specific color value, and collectively, these pixels form the complete image. The resolution of a raster image is determined by the number of pixels it contains, both in width and height. A higher resolution means more pixels, resulting in a more detailed and sharper image.

Common file formats for raster images include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP. JPEGs are widely used for photographs due to their efficient compression, though this compression can lead to some loss of quality. PNGs are popular for web graphics and images requiring transparency, as they support lossless compression. GIFs are known for their animation capabilities and limited color palette. BMP files are uncompressed, leading to larger file sizes but preserving all image data.

Raster images are created or edited using software such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint. They are particularly well-suited for representing complex images with subtle color gradients, like photographs. However, when raster images are scaled up beyond their original resolution, the pixels become larger and more visible, leading to a blocky or pixelated appearance. This makes them less ideal for graphics that need to be resized frequently without losing quality, where vector graphics might be a better choice.
