Radiologists must stay current with advances in imaging technology, physics, and contrast safety. Historically, radiology emerged after the discovery of X-rays in 1895 and evolved with innovations such as CT in the 1970s and MRI in the 1980s. Subspecialties include neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, abdominal radiology, pediatric radiology, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.
