A radiatorsystem is a network and assembly designed to transfer thermal energy from a heat source to spaces, or to the environment, using radiators. The term is commonly used in building services to describe heating distribution, and in automotive engineering to refer to the engine cooling circuit that dissipates heat through a radiator.

In buildings, hot water (hydronic) or steam is produced by a boiler or heat pump and circulated through pipes to radiators located in rooms. The radiators emit heat by convection and radiation, and the cooled medium returns to the heat source to be reheated. Controls regulate room temperature and flow.

Hydronic systems may use panel radiators, cast-iron radiators, or aluminum units. Steam systems rely on steam radiators connected to a steam supply with condensate returns. Temperature and room comfort are managed with thermostatic radiator valves, zone controls, and balancing.

Maintenance includes venting air from radiators, checking for leaks, maintaining pressures, and ensuring correct valve operation. Efficiency improves with proper insulation, corrosion protection, and periodic cleaning of fins or cores.

In automotive cooling, the radiator system circulates engine coolant from the engine to the radiator core where it is cooled by airflow, then back to the engine. Components include the radiator core, tanks, cap, hoses, water pump, thermostat, cooling fan, and reservoir. Regular coolant replacement and leak checks are part of standard maintenance.
