They also provide better traction and handling characteristics, as the tread can conform more effectively to the road surface. The sidewall is more flexible, while the tread is reinforced by a belt system, typically made of steel or fabric, running circumferentially around the tire. This belt package provides stability to the tread area, reducing deformation under load and at speed.
