Radiaatoritel is the Estonian term for radiators, heat-emitting devices used to warm indoor spaces as part of a building’s heating system. They circulate hot water or steam from a boiler or heat pump to radiate warmth and create comfortable conditions in homes and workplaces.

Most radiators are either hydronic (water-based) or electric. Hydronic radiators are commonly made of steel, cast iron, or aluminum and connect to a central boiler or heat source. Electric radiators generate heat with resistance elements and do not require a hot-water network. Common styles include panel radiators, column radiators, and towel radiators.

Operation and control rely on heat transfer from the circulating medium to the room air. In hydronic systems, a pump moves hot water through the radiator network, and thermostatic radiator valves or room thermostats regulate temperature. Proper balancing of the circuit improves even heat distribution and energy efficiency. Efficiency also depends on insulation, radiator sizing, and regular system maintenance.

Installation and maintenance considerations include sizing radiators to match room heat loss, placing them where they are most effective (often beneath windows), and ensuring proper air venting. Bleeding valves purge trapped air, while regular servicing checks for leaks, valve function, and potential sludge buildup in older systems.

History and usage: radiators evolved from 19th-century designs to modern metal constructions with high thermal conductivity and advanced controls. They remain common across Europe, including Estonia, contributing to energy-efficient heating when paired with modern boilers or heat pumps and appropriate system design.
