Röstpress is a coffee brewing device that combines elements of a French press and a pour-over method. It typically consists of a heat-resistant carafe with a plunger mechanism, similar to a French press, but also features a fine mesh filter that is positioned higher up in the carafe, just below the spout.

The brewing process begins by adding coffee grounds to the bottom of the carafe. Hot water is then poured over the grounds, and the mixture is allowed to steep for a period of time, typically a few minutes. After steeping, the plunger is pressed down. However, unlike a traditional French press where the plunger pushes the grounds to the very bottom, the röstpress's plunger only pushes the water through the upper mesh filter. This separates the brewed coffee from the grounds while preventing finer particles from passing through.

The resulting brew is often described as having the full body and rich flavor of a French press but with a cleaner finish, similar to a pour-over, due to the finer filtration. The design aims to minimize sediment in the final cup. Röstpress devices are generally made from glass, stainless steel, or a combination of both. They are a relatively niche brewing method, popular among coffee enthusiasts seeking a nuanced cup with less sediment than a standard French press.
