Páramo is a high-altitude Andean ecosystem characterized by its unique flora and fauna, adapted to the harsh conditions of thin air, high solar radiation, and extreme temperature fluctuations. These environments are typically found above the tree line and below the permanent snow line, generally between 3,000 and 4,800 meters (9,800 and 15,700 feet) above sea level. The páramo biome is most prevalent in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and parts of Costa Rica.
