Purificatio is a Latin term meaning purification, used in classical Latin and in later ecclesiastical and scholarly contexts to denote the cleansing of a person, place, or thing from impurity or defilement. The concept encompasses ritual as well as moral cleansing and provides the linguistic root for modern terms such as purification.

In ancient Rome, purificatio referred to ritual cleansing intended to restore or maintain ritual purity.
