pulssDoppler is a term that refers to the Doppler effect as applied in pulsed Doppler ultrasound. Pulsed Doppler ultrasound is a medical imaging technique used to assess blood flow within the body. Unlike continuous-wave Doppler, which measures velocity but cannot determine the location of the flow, pulsed Doppler transmits ultrasound waves in short bursts and then listens for the returning echoes.

By analyzing the frequency shift of these returning echoes, pulsed Doppler can detect and quantify the velocity of red blood cells. The key innovation of pulsed Doppler is its ability to determine the depth of the moving blood by measuring the time it takes for the ultrasound pulse to travel to the target and return.
