Pullottama is a traditional South Indian martial art and combat sport that originated in the state of Tamil Nadu. The term "Pullottama" is derived from the Tamil words "Pullu," meaning "fist," and "Tama," meaning "excellence" or "supremacy," collectively signifying "excellence in fist fighting." It is one of the oldest martial arts in the world, with historical references dating back over 3,000 years, particularly during the reign of the Chola dynasty.

Pullottama is characterized by its emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, utilizing a combination of striking techniques, grappling, and defensive maneuvers. Unlike many modern martial arts, Pullottama incorporates a unique fighting stance known as the "Arambai," where the fighter stands with knees slightly bent, feet shoulder-width apart, and hands positioned in a relaxed yet ready posture.
