Common frameworks include value- or lifestyle-based taxonomies such as VALS (Values and Lifestyles) and AIO (Activities, Interests, Opinions).

Applications encompass targeted advertising, content recommendations, product design, and user experience optimization. Psychographics are also used in political and public opinion research to tailor messaging. However, the effectiveness depends on data quality and model validity.

Limitations and concerns include reliance on self-reported data, changing preferences, and cultural variability. Critics warn against stereotyping and privacy risks, especially when data are collected and used without explicit consent. Privacy protection and ethical use are central considerations in modern practice.
