pseudogenic
Pseudogenic refers to a concept or entity that resembles or mimics something genuine but is ultimately a fabrication or imitation. In biology, a pseudogene is a DNA sequence that is similar to a functional gene but has lost its protein-coding ability or is no longer expressed. These can arise from gene duplication events where one copy of the gene is free to accumulate mutations and become non-functional. While they no longer perform their original function, pseudogenes can sometimes play regulatory roles or have other evolutionary significance.
The term pseudogenic can also be applied in a broader sense to describe anything that appears authentic
