Proxyketjut refers to a type of blockchain technology that aims to improve scalability and efficiency. It achieves this by dividing a main blockchain, often called the "root chain" or "settlement layer," into multiple smaller, independent blockchains known as "sidechains" or "child chains." These sidechains handle transactions in a more localized and faster manner.

The core concept of proxyketjut involves a two-way peg mechanism. This allows assets to be transferred from the main chain to a sidechain and back again. When assets are moved to a sidechain, they are effectively locked on the main chain and a representation of those assets is created on the sidechain. Conversely, when assets are returned to the main chain, they are burned on the sidechain and unlocked on the main chain.

This architecture offers several advantages. By offloading a significant portion of transaction volume to sidechains, the main chain experiences reduced congestion, leading to faster transaction times and lower fees. Additionally, sidechains can be designed with different consensus mechanisms or features tailored to specific use cases, offering flexibility and innovation. However, proxyketjut also introduces complexities related to security and interoperability, as the security of the sidechains often relies on mechanisms that might differ from the main chain.
