protr
Protrusion is a general term describing the act or state of being thrust forward, projecting, or extending beyond a surface or normal boundary. It can apply to a wide range of contexts, from biological structures to everyday objects and geological formations. In anatomy, a protrusion often refers to a body part that juts out. For example, a bone spur is a bony protrusion, and a herniated disc can cause a spinal disc to protrude beyond its normal position, potentially pressing on nerves. The term can also describe a physical defect, such as a protrusion of the eyes, known as exophthalmos.
Beyond biology, protrusion can describe the outward extension of a manufactured item or a natural feature.
