Protokollons are a fictional class of elementary quanta proposed in speculative discussions of quantum information networks. The term, formed from protokoll (protocol) and -on (a common particle suffix), denotes particles believed to carry protocol-level information between network nodes, coordinating operations without revealing payload data. The concept is used mainly as a conceptual tool to explore how high-level coordination might be instantiated in a quantum-enabled infrastructure.

In proposed models, protokollons are bosonic excitations with low effective mass, capable of propagating through a designed medium at relativistic speeds. They couple to qubits and to network controllers in a way that transmits tokens—such as request, grant, or sync signals—while leaving the actual data intact.

Theoretical framework posits a protocol field theory in which protokollons emerge as quanta of a universal information field. Their dynamics include token conservation and rules for token fusion or branching, which correspond to logical operations in a distributed protocol.
