Propagationsteknik refers to the methods and techniques used to reproduce plants. This broad term encompasses a variety of approaches, broadly categorized into sexual propagation and asexual propagation. Sexual propagation involves the use of seeds, which are the result of sexual reproduction between two parent plants. This method leads to genetic variation among offspring, potentially resulting in new cultivars or improved traits.

Asexual propagation, also known as vegetative propagation, involves using parts of a single parent plant to create a genetically identical new plant. This ensures that the offspring will possess the same characteristics as the parent. Common asexual propagation techniques include cuttings, where a piece of stem, leaf, or root is induced to form roots and shoots. Grafting is another method where a part of one plant (the scion) is joined to the root system of another (the rootstock) to combine desirable traits. Layering involves inducing roots to form on a stem while it is still attached to the parent plant before it is detached and planted. Tissue culture, a more advanced technique, uses small pieces of plant tissue grown in a sterile laboratory environment to produce a large number of identical plants.
