Pommittajat were a Finnish World War II fighter aviation unit that operated from 1939 to 1944. The word "pommittajat" translates to "bomber" in English. Formed on May 22, 1939, as a sub-unit under the Finnish Air Force's night and day fighter regiment, Pommittajat started as a mixed bomber unit, equipped with 46 Polikarpov SB-2 and T-34 planes. They flew using these aircraft from various bases in eastern and southern Finland, primarily dropping bombs and performing reconnaissance missions across the Soviet Union during the Winter War.
Between the Winter War and the Continuation War, Pommittajat was upgraded to T-34-3 variant bombers in 1941.
