Polimerhálózat refers to a network structure formed by polymer chains. In this structure, individual polymer molecules are chemically or physically linked together, creating a three-dimensional network. This cross-linking process significantly alters the properties of the polymer compared to its linear or branched counterparts.

The formation of a polymer network can occur through various mechanisms. Chemical cross-linking involves the creation of covalent bonds between polymer chains, often initiated by cross-linking agents or radiation. Physical cross-linking relies on weaker intermolecular forces, such as hydrogen bonding, ionic interactions, or entanglement, to hold the chains together.

The degree of cross-linking, meaning the density of connections between polymer chains, plays a crucial role in determining the material's properties. A higher degree of cross-linking generally leads to increased mechanical strength, rigidity, and thermal stability. It also reduces the solubility and swelling behavior of the polymer. Conversely, a lower degree of cross-linking results in a more flexible and extensible material.
