Plastdeksel is Dutch for plastic lid and refers to a removable cover used to seal containers such as bottles, jars, tubs, and pails. Lids are produced from various polymers, with polypropylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and polyethylene (PE) being the most common due to chemical resistance and sealing performance. Some lids use PET, polystyrene (PS), or multilayer laminates, depending on content and process.

Lids are typically manufactured by injection molding for screw and snap-fit closures, or by thermoforming for lids with spouts or hinged elements. Features may include screw threads, snap-on rims, flip-top spouts, tamper-evident rings, and liners or seals made of foil, foam, or elastomer, which improve sealing and aroma retention.

Common applications include food and beverage packaging (yogurt lids, jar lids, beverage closures), cosmetics containers (creams, lotions), household chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, where tamper-evidence and child-resistance may be priorities.

Environmental and recycling considerations: Lids can complicate recycling if made from different plastics than the container or if coated. Designing lids to match the container polymer, removing liners, and using recyclable materials improves recyclability. Recycling rates depend on regional facilities; litter and improper disposal contribute to plastic waste.
