Pixelrespons is a metric used in display technology to quantify the dynamic response of an individual pixel to a change in drive signal. It focuses on per-pixel behavior rather than whole-screen timing and is applicable to LCD, OLED, and emerging micro-LED displays. The metric can be defined for luminance changes alone (Pixelrespons-L) or for combined chromatic transitions (Pixelrespons-C). It aims to capture how quickly and accurately a pixel reaches a new level after a stimulus, including aspects such as speed, overshoot, and settling accuracy.

Measurement and interpretation of pixelrespons typically involve controlled laboratory testing. A fast, uniform stimulus is applied to induce a step in brightness or color, and the resulting pixel response is recorded over time with a calibrated photodetector or a high-speed camera focused on a single pixel or a small region. The response curves are analyzed to extract rise time, fall time, settling time, and overshoot, and are sometimes fit with exponential or multi-exponential models. The results can be presented as time constants or as normalized response curves PR(t) = ΔI(t)/ΔI0.

Origin and usage: while not standardized, the concept has appeared in academic and industry discussions as a lower-level descriptor that complements frame-based metrics such as overall display response time or motion persistence. It is particularly relevant for high-refresh-rate or high-contrast displays where per-pixel switching speed can influence perceived motion, color stability, and image quality.

Applications and limitations: pixelrespons is used in display calibration, quality assurance, and research into pixel drive schemes. Its main limitations include dependence on measurement setup, ambient conditions, color content, and sensor noise, which can affect cross-test comparability.
