Pingtester is a generic term for software tools that measure network reachability and latency by sending probes to a specified host and analyzing the responses. The core function is to determine whether a host is reachable and to estimate network performance between the tester and the target. Most implementations send one or more probe packets and wait for replies, recording round-trip times, packet loss, and timing statistics such as minimum, maximum, and average latency, and sometimes jitter.
