Piacmanipuláció refers to the act of intentionally influencing the price of an asset or market through deceptive or fraudulent means. This can involve a variety of tactics, all aimed at creating a false impression of supply or demand, thereby artificially inflating or deflating prices. Such actions are illegal in most regulated financial markets, as they undermine the integrity and fairness of trading.

Common forms of piacmanipuláció include "pump and dump" schemes, where promoters artificially inflate the price of a stock through misleading positive statements, and then sell their own holdings at the inflated price. Another tactic is "spoofing," which involves placing large buy or sell orders with the intention of cancelling them before execution, in order to create a false sense of market momentum. Wash trading, where an individual or group simultaneously buys and sells the same financial instrument to create misleading activity, is also a form of manipulation. Insider trading, while often discussed separately, can also be considered a form of market manipulation if it leads to unfair price advantages.

The goal of market manipulators is typically to profit from the artificial price movements they create. Regulatory bodies worldwide, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the United States, actively monitor markets for manipulative behavior and enforce penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for those found guilty.
