Pesuohjelman is the Finnish term for the predefined sequence of washing actions used by washing machines and dishwashers to clean textiles or dishes. A pesuohjelma specifies parameters such as water temperature, wash duration, drum movement or agitation, rinse cycles, spin speed, and, in some cases, detergent dosing. The program is selected based on load type, fabric or material, soil level, color safety, and energy considerations. Many modern machines offer sensors that adjust cycle length and intensity to optimize cleaning and fabric care.

Common pesuohjelmat include several standard categories. Puuvilla (cotton) programs are designed for durable fabrics and typically use higher temperatures and longer durations. Sekoitteiset tekstiilit (mixed fabrics) provide a balanced cycle for blends. Hienopesu or herkkä (delicate) programs use gentle agitation and lower spin speeds for fragile items. Villapesu (wool) programs are very gentle and often operate at low temperatures. Pikapesu (quick wash) programs run in a shorter time for lightly soiled loads. Valkopesu or valkoinen pyykki programs target white cottons with higher temperatures for disinfection and stain removal. Some machines also include esipesu (prewash) and eco or energy-saving variants that optimize water and energy use.
