The two main types are freestone, where the flesh separates easily from the pit, and clingstone, where the flesh adheres to the pit.

Peaches are a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as dietary fiber. They are commonly consumed fresh, but can also be canned, dried, or used in jams, jellies, pies, and other desserts. The taste of a ripe peach is sweet and slightly tart. Peach cultivation requires a period of cold weather for proper fruit set, making them unsuitable for consistently tropical climates. The tree is susceptible to various pests and diseases, requiring careful management in orchards.
