Pattogatók is a Hungarian term that translates to "hoppers" or "hoppers" and generally refers to small, agile invertebrates, often insects or arachnids, characterized by their ability to jump or leap. These creatures are found in a wide variety of habitats, including grasslands, forests, and even urban environments. Their hopping ability is a crucial adaptation for escape from predators, for locomotion, and sometimes for searching for food or mates.

Several insect orders contain species commonly referred to as pattogatók. For instance, many species of grasshoppers and crickets, belonging to the order Orthoptera, are excellent jumpers due to their powerful hind legs. Springtails, tiny wingless arthropods in the class Collembola, also exhibit remarkable jumping capabilities using a specialized appendage called a furcula. In the realm of arachnids, jumping spiders (family Salticidae) are well-known for their impressive leaping prowess, which they use to hunt their prey.

The mechanism behind their jumping varies. In insects like grasshoppers, it involves the rapid extension of the hind legs, storing and releasing elastic energy. Springtails achieve their leaps by snapping their furcula against the substrate. Jumping spiders, on the other hand, use a sudden increase in blood pressure within their legs to propel themselves forward. The size and strength of the jump are often proportional to the size of the creature.
