Patidar is a term used to describe a social group in Gujarat, India, associated with landownership, agriculture, and rural leadership. The term is often linked to the Gujarati surname Patel, but not all Patidars bear that surname, nor are all people named Patel Patidar.

The Patidar community comprises several subgroups, most notably the Leva Patidar (Leuva Patidar) and the Kadva Patidar, each with distinct genealogies, rituals, and regional affiliations.

Geographically, Patidars are concentrated in Gujarat, where they have played a prominent role in politics, business, and social life. Smaller communities with the same or similar names exist in neighboring states such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, and diaspora communities from Gujarat have established Patidar networks in East Africa, the United Kingdom, North America, and other parts of the world.

Historically, Patidars were landowners and agriculturists, with many entries into commerce, education, and professional fields in modern India. The community has been influential in politics, especially in Gujarat; Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other leaders are associated with the Patidar/Patel tradition.

Patidar organizations and associations contribute to social service, education, and cultural events, including regional fairs and religious observances. Gujarati is the primary language, with religious diversity including Hindu, Jain, and Muslim Patidars among its members.
