Vallabhbhai Patel, commonly known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was an Indian political leader and statesman who played a key role in the country’s struggle for independence and in its early political consolidation. Born on 31 October 1875 in Nadiad, Gujarat, he came from a farming family and trained as a lawyer in London before returning to practice in India. Patel joined the Indian independence movement in the early 20th century and emerged as a leading organizer within the Indian National Congress, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent principles.
