Particlesions are a proposed class of emergent excitations in theoretical models of strongly correlated materials. The term describes localized composite quasi-particles that arise when a mobile excitation interacts with a surrounding field, lattice distortion, or spin texture, effectively dressing the carrier into a bound state that propagates as a single unit. In these models, the particleion can carry quantum numbers that are redistributed between the itinerant particle and the background, leading to properties that differ from those of the bare particle.

Formation and properties follow from the coupling between motion and a static or dynamic background. Particlesions are envisioned to appear in systems with strong interactions, lattice frustration, or substantial spin-orbit effects, where a moving charge or spin excitation distorts the local environment and a polarization cloud or lattice distortion becomes bound to it. The resulting dispersion relation and response functions reflect the hybridized nature of the excitation. Depending on the model, particleions may obey statistics that are distinct from the constituent particle, and they may exhibit energy gaps or bound-state constraints that stabilize them at low temperatures.

Observation and evidence for particlesions remain theoretical. Predictions typically arise from lattice simulations and effective field theories, which suggest distinctive spectroscopic features, unusual transport behavior, or interference patterns as potential signatures. Experimental identification would require carefully designed probes in engineered materials or quantum simulators.

Applications and significance are currently speculative. If realized, particlesions could offer new carriers for information in quantum devices or provide insight into anomalous transport phenomena in complex materials.
