Parkimisandurid, also known as parking sensors, are electronic devices designed to assist drivers in parking and maneuvering their vehicles in tight spaces. They work by emitting ultrasonic sound waves or electromagnetic fields, which then bounce off nearby objects. The sensors detect these reflected waves and calculate the distance to the object. This information is then relayed to the driver, typically through an audible warning system that increases in frequency as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle, or sometimes via visual displays on the car's dashboard or infotainment screen.

There are generally two main types of parking sensors: ultrasonic and electromagnetic. Ultrasonic sensors are the most common, using sound waves. They are usually installed in the front and rear bumpers of a vehicle. Electromagnetic sensors, less common, create an electromagnetic field around the vehicle and detect disturbances in this field caused by nearby objects. They are often integrated seamlessly into the bumper and do not require visible holes.

Parking sensors significantly enhance driver awareness of potential collisions, reducing the risk of minor dents and scratches, especially in crowded parking lots or garages.
