Paneelküttekehade, often translated as panel heaters, are a type of electric heating appliance commonly used for domestic space heating. They consist of a metal casing, typically made of steel, which encloses an electric heating element. The heating element, usually a resistance wire, heats up when electricity passes through it. This heat is then transferred to the air that circulates around and through the panel.

These heaters work on the principle of convection. Cold air enters the bottom of the panel heater, is heated by the element inside, and then rises to escape from the top. This continuous circulation of air helps to warm the room. Some panel heaters also incorporate radiant heat, where the surface of the panel itself becomes warm and radiates heat directly into the room.

Panel heaters are known for their slim and unobtrusive design, making them suitable for installation on walls where space might be limited. They are often equipped with thermostats to regulate the room temperature, allowing users to set a desired level of warmth. Many modern panel heaters also feature timers and programmable settings for greater control over heating schedules.

While they offer a convenient and relatively inexpensive initial purchase price, their running costs can be higher compared to other heating systems, especially in colder climates, due to their reliance on electricity. Their efficiency can be influenced by factors such as room insulation and the desired temperature. Panel heaters are often used as supplementary heating in rooms that are not frequently used or to provide quick bursts of heat.
