Pamiec (Polish: pamięć) is the faculty by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved. In everyday use, pamiec also refers to data storage in information technology. The term covers both biological memory in humans and animals and the memory resources available to computers and other devices.

Biological memory is commonly divided into sensory memory, working or short-term memory, and long-term memory. Long-term memory includes episodic memory (personal events), semantic memory (facts and knowledge), and procedural memory (skills and actions). Memory processes include encoding, consolidation, storage, and retrieval, with various strategies such as repetition, elaboration, and organization affecting how well information is learned.

Neurobiologically, memory relies on networks in the brain, notably the hippocampus and medial temporal lobe for formation and consolidation, and the prefrontal cortex for working memory and strategic retrieval. Sleep supports consolidation. Memory develops across the lifespan, with infantile amnesia in early childhood and age-related decline in later life; disorders such as amnesia, Alzheimer's disease, and other dementias can impair memory.

Culturally and practically, memory is a central theme in psychology, philosophy, education, and daily life. Mnemonic techniques, repetition, and context provide tools for improving recall. In technology and information policy, memory also refers to data retention and archival practices, as devices store vast amounts of information for varying periods. In Polish usage, the term is foundational to both everyday language and scientific discussion, and it appears in many specialized domains from neuroscience to information technology.
