pHmuutojen is a Finnish term used to describe changes in the acidity or basicity of a solution, reflecting variations in hydrogen ion concentration. In English-language contexts it is typically referred to as pH changes. These changes can be gradual or rapid and arise from chemical reactions, dilution, gas exchange with the atmosphere, or shifts in buffering systems that resist pH shifts.

pH changes are governed by several mechanisms. Acid-base reactions alter the balance of hydrogen ions, while dissolution of minerals, CO2 uptake, or loss can shift pH in soils, water, and biological systems.
